About the firm

A firm built around one practice question: can we keep your work intact?

Karen B. Schapira, PLLC represents healthcare providers in regulatory compliance, licensure, peer review, contracts, and the appeal of unpaid and underpaid medical claims.

Our story

Karen B. Schapira, PLLC represents healthcare providers in regulatory compliance, licensure, peer review, drafting and negotiation of agreements, and all aspects of review, analysis, and appeal of unpaid and underpaid medical claims by government and commercial payors.

The firm is unique in its ability to audit a provider's claims, analyze the validity of a payor's audit, and appeal denials or recoupment. We engage the services of certified coders and analysts who are well versed in medical claims to enhance the firm's ability to audit, analyze, and appeal, keeping the audit and legal work in-house.

Karen Schapira was an auditor before entering law school. She brings that knowledge, and over a decade of dedicated claims-review experience, to every matter.

How we work

We are a boutique by design. The matters that reach the firm are matters that benefit from a single attorney's continuous attention, not from being routed across associates and partners on a Gantt chart. Karen reads the file. Karen drafts the brief. Karen takes the call.

That structure has consequences for the firm and for the client. We take fewer matters than we are asked to take. The matters we accept get the attention they need. Most engagements begin with a thirty-minute conversation about whether we are the right firm for the work in front of you.

Meet the team

Three people. One file.

With over ten years of dedicated health law experience and twenty years of legal practice, our small team is structured so that nothing falls through the cracks between attorney, paralegal, and auditor.
